Title: Man Who Could Work Miracles and Things to Come Title Record # 1110023
Author: H. G. Wells
Date: 2010-05-07
Type: COLLECTION
Language: English
Note: Contents unknown This must be an omnibus edition of The Annotated H. G. Wells, volumes 8 and 9, first published in 2003 and 2007 with page counts ix+142 and x+261. Amazon reports page count 423 for the only known publication (as of 2010 and 2020), which fits the two volumes and does not imply pagination in a single new series. "The Man Who Could Work Miracles" (1898) and The Shape of Things to Come (1933) are (the only?) two Wells stories that he adapted for the screen. The two screen adaptations were first published in 1935 and 1936, and were published together in 1940: • Things to Come: A New Story Based on the Material Contained in His Book, The Shape of Things to ComeMan Who Could Work Miracles: A Film Story Based on the Material Contained in His Short StoryTwo Film Stories: Things to Come / The Man Who Could Work Miracles (Two quoted descriptions are fashioned as subtitles here, and may be fashioned as subtitles in some publications reported by libraries.) First editions from Cresset Press were 142 and 96 pages; US editions from The Macmillan Company were 155 and 109 pages. The adaptations are treated as a novel and a short story at ISFDB, matching the original works. Films were produced in 1936 and 1937. See the linked titles for more information.
