Note: This is the first of three stories and two poems written from the viewpoint of a child and published in the September 1959 issue of "The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction". The stories written by adults (all of them published writers) appeared pseudonymously. Readers were told that at least one piece was written by a child, and at least one was written by an adult. They were then challenged to determine which stories were actually written by children. Identities of the authors were given on page 15 of the October 1959 issue and can be found in ISFDB notes for the September 1959 issue of F&SF. This story was authored by Alfred Bester writing as "Sonny Powell". Note that the title "The Black Nebulea" was deliberately misspelled to make the writing appear more childlike.
