Title: The Surprising, Unheard of and Never-To-Be-Surpassed Adventures of Young Munchausen Title Record # 1011431
Author: C. H. Bennett
Date: 1864-00-00
Type: COLLECTION [juvenile]
Series: Young Munchausen
Webpages: archive.org
Language: English
Note: Published as a book for the 1864 Christmas gift season, with 1865 date, in two editions distinguished by cover color (dark blue, red) and illustrations (black-and-white, hand-coloured). Archive.org (above) provides a copy of the black-and-white 1st ed. See publication records of the 1864 eds. for links to more convenient online copies of both. The Examiner 1864-12-17 p807, "Gift-Books for the Young", notes this work both as contents of Routledge's Every Boy's Annual and as published alone: "Of the books which represent boy-heroes achieving miraculous adventures in all corners of the globe, we are glad to see that Mr Bennett's jest of the young Munchausen is this year the chief and almost only representation."
  • Published 1864 as a 12-part serial in Every Boy's Magazine #24 to #35 (as January to December, as volume 3?) • "Young Munchausen. By C. H. Bennett. Illustrated by the Author." – so listed among Contents of #24, "The first number of the new volume", as due 1863-12-18, The Athenaeum 1863-12-12 p780
  • Published November 1864 within Routledge's Every Boy's Annual: An Original Miscellany of Entertaining Literature for 1865, a compilation of the monthly issues (December to November, as January to December?) • "Adventures of Young Munchausen" – covered among Contents in reviews of the Annual including The Athenaeum #1934 (1864-11-19) p671
  • HathiTrust Digital Library provides full view of the Annual for 1864, evidently the first and containing contents of the monthly issues from 1863 (volume 2?), and some later issues including 1866. Those are not presented as bound volumes of the monthly magazine but they may contain all numbered pages of the magazine. HathiTrust does not hold any issues of Every Boy's Magazine, as of March 2019 apparently.
