  • Series: Science Fantasy / Impulse Series Record # 45157
  • Note: From Tuck's Encyclopedia of Science Fiction and Fantasy: This magazine began with the formation of the fan-financed Nova Publications. Initially it was meant to be a sort of continuation of W. Gillings' excellent amateur magazine Fantasy Review, and departments from that magazine were carried over. However, business commitments caused Gillings to leave, Carnell became editor, and this aspect was dropped, leaving no departments except occasional book reviews. The fiction policy called for far more fantasy than in New Worlds, the companion magazine. This was generally a short novel, most of which were well received, plus short stories. For a time S. Moskowitz's biographical profiles of noted science fiction and fantasy authors were published (following a US appearance). Quinn and Lewis did most of the cover artwork in the Carnell period; like New Worlds, no interior illustrations were used. The magazine changed its name to Impulse in 1966. Titles: Science Fantasy (1950-1966), Impulse (March - August 1966), SF Impulse (September 1966 - February 1967). Editors: #1 - #2 Walter Gillings, #3 - #64 John Carnell, #65 - #81 Kyril Bonfiglioli, 1966.03 - 1966.09 Kyril Bonfiglioli, 1966.10 - 1967.02 Harry Harrison. Publishers: 1950 - 1964.04 Nova Publications Ltd. London, England; 1964.06 - 1967 Roberts & Vinter Ltd. London, England. Most of the data presented here for Science Fantasy titles was supplied by Malcolm Farmer.
