Hutchinson Heinemann succeeded Hutchinson, William Heinemann, and Windmill Books by merger, under the Cornerstone division of Penguin Random House, for publication of trade hardcover books from September 2021. --Feb 2021 notice in The Bookseller, perhaps with other sources

William Heinemann (1863–1920) founded the publishing company in 1890. After he died without an heir, from 1920 to 1933 it was owned by New York publisher Doubleday, which had previously published US editions of some Heinemann books. Heinemann trade, educational, and other properties were separately sold by Reed Elsevier beginning with the trade divisions to Random House in 1997. From that time, "Heinemann" imprints have been used by multiple publishers. Heinemann.com is a US educational imprint of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt as of 2025.
