Note: Founded in New York City, June 1929, by John Chipman Farrar, Stanley Marshall Rinehart, Jr., and Frederick Roberts Rinehart. In 1946 the company was renamed Rinehart & Company after Farrar left for Farrar, Straus (later Farrar, Straus and Giroux.) Farrar & Rinehart introduced dollar fiction, new novels in hardcover editions at $1.00, on 6 June 1930.
