Note: New York Established 1881 Succeeded 1933 by the Appleton-Century Company (D. Appleton-Century Company), after one merger, and in turn by Appleton-Century-Crofts in 1948 As of October 2018, Wikipedia displays one use of "The Century Co." (all caps). Roswell Smith was one co-founder of Scribner & Co. and its literary magazine Scribner's Monthly: An Illustrated Magazine for the People (1870). In April 1881 he bought out Charles Scribner II and created, or simply re-named, The Century Company and The Century Illustrated Monthly Magazine (Century Magazine).
