Note: Publication series from 1917 New York City publisher, 1925 to 1927? The Modern Library is an imprint of Random House since c. 1927. Albert Boni and Horace Liveright conceived "The Modern Library of the World's Best Classics" and founded the publisher Boni & Liveright in February 1917 to publish it. See ISFDB publication series The Modern Library (Boni & Liveright). Bennett Cerf and Donald Klopfer purchased the imprint or reprint series from Boni & Liveright in 1925 and made it their own business. They also published some trade books "at random" and started Random House in 1927 as a subsidiary. Eventually it became the parent company. Modern Library books generally do not have dates listed. The dates of printing of the dust jackets can generally be determined via the "DatingKey" website (ModernLib.com-1, above). For other identifiers see Modern Library Identifiers (ModernLib.com-2).
