  • Cover: Elementals: Stories of Fire and Ice (1998) • by Edvard Munch (variant of Red and White 1900)
  • Notes:
    • Second printing that states "Published in 1998" over "3 5 7 9 8 6 4 2". As it has "Published in" rather than the more common "First published in" it's assumed the second printing was in 1998. The first printing date was 1998-11-00 meaning this publication would have been in either 1998-11-00 or 1998-12-00.
    • The ISBN barcode on the back cover is formatted as "0-701-16823-4" which is incorrect. The copyright page has "0-7011-6823-4" which is the correct formatting.
    • The cover art credits are on the back jacket flap. The front cover art is from Red and White by Edvard Munch. There is also a painting on the back cover, Winter Night at Rondane by Harald Sohlberg. The Harald Sohlberg painting is on the left side and the Edvard Munch painting is on the right side in the cover image shown here.
    • There is a page with interior artwork before each story. These are credited as part of the Acknowledgements on page [232]:
      • Page [001] - Illustration of an early crest or coat of arms for the city of Nîmes, France. The illustration is from Le crocodile de Nîmes by W. Froehner, Paris, 1872.
      • Page [079] - Sirène, 1948 by Henri Matisse. The artwork source is Florilège des Amours by Ronsard. Note that this is not the same art as Matisse's more well known La Perruche et la Sirène cut-out work.
      • Page [113] - Photograph of a 17th century Façon de Venise goblet from Sotheby's Picture Library.
      • Page [183] - Composition by Darren Hagger, 1998.
      • Page [195] - A drawing of Jael and Sisera apparently by an unknown artist during one of Rembrandt's classes.
      • Page [217] - Cropped detail from Kitchen Scene with Christ in the House of Martha and Mary by Diego Velázquez circa 1618.
