  • Publication: Skylark ThreePublication Record # 282665
  • Author: Edward E. Smith, Ph.D.
  • Date: 2009-01-18
  • Catalog ID: 21051
  • Publisher: Project Gutenberg
  • Price:
    $0.00?$: US dollar
  • Pages: 104
  • Format:
ebook?Used for all electronic formats, including but not limited to EPUB, eReader, HTML, iBook, Mobipocket, and PDF.
  • Type: NOVEL
  • Notes:
    • Available in HTML, plain text (us-ascii & iso-8859-1), & Plucker formats from Ebook #21051. Raw page images are also available.
    • Produced from Amazing Stories, August, September and October 1930. The HTML version includes artwork from those issues, uncredited, and the magazine covers from each issue, uncredited here but (from other sources) by H. W. Wesso, Leo Morey, & Leo Morey. (All three installments were the stories illustrated on the covers.) Some of the (original) interior artworks are also signed H. Wesso, & I have used this as the credit for all of them. The third (original) cover is signed L. Morey.
    • Project Gutenberg gives the author as Edward Elmer Smith, but the transcribed text gives Edward E. Smith, Ph.D. Project Gutenberg also credits Wesso as illustrator.
    • The pagination from the source publications is maintained (in the HTML version), but the total number of pages is a bit dicey. Due to the original serialization, there are significant breaks in the page numbering; and four sets of page numbers (395-396, 540-541, 557-558, & 613-614) are reversed & have no content between the first & second of each pair. I've assumed that this is due to moving of illustrations, & included those in the total page count, totaling the ranges for the three installments as numbered here.
    • The HTML version includes a table of contents.
    • At the end of the publication is a section titled 'Some Remarks On The "Skylark Three" and About Errors. A Compliment To Dr. Smith's Stories.' This consists of a letter to the editor signed John W. Campbell, Jr., and a comment on it signed "Editor", probably by T. O'Conor Sloane. I've set the date to that of the final issue because it appears from the scans to have followed the final installment; this might be incorrect.
    • An extensive list of typographical corrections made, & of some irregularities not changed, is given at the end of the publication.
    • "Release Date: April 13, 2007 [EBook #21051] Last updated: January 18, 2009"
    • "Images have been moved to their appropriate places in the text."
    • "The original page numbers from the magazines have been retained."
    • "The heading and title of Chapter VII were reversed in order in the text. Restored."
    • "Produced by Greg Weeks, LN Yaddanapudi, Flash Sheridan and the Online Distributed Proofreading Team at http://www.pgdp.net".
