Note: Kasack began as editor for diverse publishing houses, S. Fischer among them. As he was banned from publishing his own works by the Nazis after 1933 his literary only began after the Second World War. He was a founding member of the German PEN center, and from 1953 to 1963 the president of the 'Deutsche Akademie für Sprache und Dichtung'.
