  • Genre uncertain. Historical fiction with some supernaturalism probably: : Reginald lists both The Sorceress and The Court : Bleiler78 lists only The Sorceress : Bleiler, The Guide to Supernatural Fiction lists only The Sorceress but notes, "The author wrote several other, similar historical novels, some more or less interlocked in the subject matter, but with less supernaturalism: THE COURT OF LUCIFER (1910); UNDER THE WITCHES' MOON (1917), etc."
  • Third in a trilogy? Reviewed (below) as completing a trilogy, following Castel del Monte (1905) and The Sorceress of Rome (1907). Set about 500 years later than the latter, in the time of the Borgias (c. 1500) rather than the Ottos (c. 1000).
Synopsis:
  • "like its two predecessors ... a romance of medieval Italy, in which he has sought to portray truthfully, although in fiction, the epoch ushering in the Renaissance." Gallizier believes it is the only work in English that portrays Lucretia Borgia truly as "a pure, and in many ways admirable, woman". --Cincinnati Enquirer 1910-09-19 p7
  • "A brilliant historical novel woven around the famous and notorious Borgia family, and completing Mr. Gallizier's Italian trilogy" --N-Y Tribune -11-12 p8
  • "The long-heralded final volume of Mr. Gallizier's trilogy of romances of medieval Italy" --Cin. Enquirer -11-14 p5 (Gallizier died 1927 in Cincinnati and may have been a local writer.)
