Synopsis: This third and final collection of letters begins late in 1960 and continues to Heinlein's last handwritten note to the Archivist at UCSC in 1987, about a year before his death. After 1982, there are few examples, as Heinlein became computer proficient; the correspondence on disks is in Magic Wand software in the Archives and was unavailable to the editors. His correspondence makes clear that his beliefs were consistent over his entire life, freedom and self-responsibility. His feeling that they were being lost led him to become their major apostle, taking the word everywhere and every way he could. As he become more famous, he defended those themes even more strenuously, especially as age and medical crises began impinging on his abilities. He continued lively correspondence with other writers as always. Frequent correspondents included Marion Zimmer Bradley, Jerry Pournelle, L. Sprague de Camp and Poul Anderson. The letters tell about the construction of his new house in California, his frequent travel around the world and his health problems that multiplied with age. In all, this is a revealing look at the man.
