Synopsis: The ruined Louisiana planter Jean Pocquelin returns from a failed slave-trading voyage without his beloved brother. He lives in strictest isolation with one slave, fending off developers who want to drain the swamps he lives among. His house is said to be haunted by a white apparition. Only after Pocquelin's death does the nature of this "haunting" become clear.
