Synopsis: Publisher: Alanna was a wild savage when Jules Verrick's Missionaries caught her stealing from their cornfield. They shot her and would have killed her, but Jules stopped them. He carrier her back to his house, got a doctor to tend her wound, and announced that he and his wife were adopting her.
They taught Alanna to be human, at least to all outward appearances, but she was never really one of them. There was a time when she might have become a Missionary, but as things turned out it was best for Jules, for his people, and especially for Alanna that she did not. It was best that when they left Earth and settled on a strange planet inhabited by warring tribes of aliens she became something else entirely.
