• Note: New York City Founded in 1942 as a paperback publishing company. Acquired in 1970 by Fawcett Publications, which subsequently was sold to CBS Publications. Most of the titles in the years 1980–1982 were published under the "Fawcett Popular Library" name. These publications are kept separate in the ISFDB. Just before it was sold by CBS in 1982 to Warner Communications, its name was restored to Popular Library. It lay dormant for a few years until it was resurrected in 1985 as an imprint of Warner Books. Most of the science fiction titles from Warner Books were published under this imprint as a "Questar / Popular Library" book (1985–1991). Publications under this sub-imprint are entered separately in the ISFDB. In 1991 Warner Books abolished the Popular Library division along with the Questar imprint. The few sf titles published in this period were published as Warner Books, until the new science fiction imprint, Aspect, was created in 1994. Most later publications, if not all, should be entered in the database as published by these imprints: * 1980 to 1982, Fawcett Popular Library * 1985 to 1991, Popular Library / Warner Books * 1985 to 1991, Questar / Popular Library Ned L. Pines (1905–1990) and Leo Margulies (1900–1975) established Popular Library in 1942 as a "detective-story reprint paperback book company. Popular expanded to publish most genres."
