• Note: Vantage Press was one of the oldest vanity presses in the U.S. It lost a class action lawsuit filed by its authors when a judge determined that its claim to be an actual publisher was fraudulent, and the press did not promote or distribute copies of the authors' books. The firm had to pay $3.5 million in punitive damages in 1990, e.g. as described in the Deseret News. Books from this publisher generally received no distribution from the publisher, and were eventually pulped, and hence are fairly rare. Often the only copies that circulated were the ones the author distributed personally.
