Note: "A writing prize recognizing the finest fiction and non-fiction works that engage broad audiences and enhance the understanding excitement, and knowledge of interstellar space exploration and travel." The award was first given in 2015. On April 11, 2017, "2016-2017" nominees were announced with the understanding that "winners will be announced and honored at the 100YSS Nexus in Los Angeles, September 14-17." According to a September 8, 2017 updated posted on http://nexus.100yss.net/ , 100YSS Nexus 2017 was cancelled due to Hurricane Harvey in Houston, Texas and tentatively rescheduled for early 2018. No further announcement have been seen as of January 2019. There are 7 categories, 3 for previously professionally published works and 4 for original works that were not previously published. Original works must be on the theme "Near Steps to Interstellar". Only professionally published fiction categories are currently listed by the ISFDB. The other categories are:
